If you are a cat-lover and are looking for a unique and loving companion, a Sphynx cat might be the perfect match for you. A Sphynx is a medium-sized cat with very noticeable features, the most common one being hairlessness! They also have wrinkled skin, a muscular build, and large triangular ears. These cats share their names with the ancient Egyptian Sphynx, but actually originated in Canada. The most famous Sphynx you might know is Mr. Bigglesworth from the movie Austin Powers. Since a Sphynx has a peculiar aesthetic that is most definitely attention-grabbing, their looks may be off-putting to some people. However, what these cats lack in hair, they make up for in their energetic and adorable personality. Also, they get along well with humans. The Sphynx is a loyal and strong breed with very few health problems. Although these cats are hairless, they are not completely bald and are actually a little fuzzy.

Contrary to what people might believe, they are surprisingly not hypoallergenic pets. Their skin and saliva still produce the allergy that causes a runny nose and itchy eyes. Perhaps the alien-like features they possess might just be enough of a temptation to get one of these cuties. Like with every animal, they need special care, like weekly baths. Since Sphynx cats don’t have any fur, protecting them from cold temperatures is imperative, so you may want stock up on some cute cat sweaters if you live in a cold place. However, they can also get sunburnt! A Sphynx has a life span of about 8-14 years, and come in all different colors from white, black, and brown, to silver, cameo and blue. They also have different skin patterns ranging from tortoiseshell, solid color, and bi/tri color. These cats need to be bathed with medicated shampoo in order to prevent oily skin, and because of their fast metabolism, they should be fed multiple times throughout the day according to their nutritional needs. Overall, if you want a sweet and charming companion who will sit with you on the couch or on your lap while you relax and watch TV, these snuggly and gentle felines are purrfect (no pun intended) for you.
