Starbucks Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade Cold Brew

If Asia did not already have enough exciting and unique things to make you to want to travel there, then perhaps the Butterfly Pea Flower Lemonade Cold Brew will help you make an educated decision.

Starbucks now has this iced drink on their menu at locations throughout Asia. Other than it’s super cool name, it also changes colors and is a combination of tea, refreshing lemonade and cold brew energizing coffee.

The special drink was created in honor of the upcoming spring season and they have completely succeeded just based on the way it looks, taste aside.  It’s completely colorful and fun.

The drink looks like a unicorn tea drink from the outside, but it’s actually an espresso drink that contains pea protein. No unicorns were harmed in the proccess.

The drink is completely natural and does not contain any artificial coloring. They have managed to create a fruit and vegetable coloring.

The first layer of the drink is the butterfly pea flower tea which is a popular ingredient in Asia and is also known as Asian Pigeonwing.  When the pea flower is in tea is appears to be a shade of blue, and when mixed with lemon it takes on a violet color because of the pH balance.

So when water and lemon are mixed, the pea flower creates this incredible astronomical drink. It looks like melted cotton candy but it’s still got a natural flavor and is comparable to green tea.

The next layer of the drink is the lemonade which is sweet and sour, which not only changes the color of the tea but also balances out the stronger flavors.

The third layer is Starbucks classic Cold Brew which really perfects the flavor in this drink. Depending on where your straw is placed, each sip can offer a different experience.

It’s basically three drinks in one. The butterfly pea flower is slowly making it’s way into the food scene in America, so keep your eyes open and your Instagram’s flipping to see where it shows up next.
