Paradise or Death?

The popular dreamy paradise destination, Cancun, is unfortunately rapidly becoming the murder capital of Mexico, according to recent reports from the city.

Due to the ongoing drug trade and extortion of the locals, the city has seen a huge wave of killings. The murder rate has in fact doubled in a mere year, with more than 100 murders committed since 2018 began. In comparison, the homicide rate in Europe is the highest in Talllinn, Estonia, with 5.5 per 100, 000 people.

Politicians apparently have put pressure on the media to keep quiet about the shocking increase, in order to avoid an economic disaster, seeing as tourism is one of their biggest industries.

There are great fears that Cancun will become like Acapulco, which was also once upon a time a glamorous holiday destination, however is now known as the murder capital of the world.

Extortion is a massive issue, with locals left with no choice but to pay gangsters protection money in order to stay safe.
