Nike BeTrue

The Nike BeTrue campaign was first launched over six years ago by a team of Nike employees as a grassroots effort. Rober Gorman, the network leader of Nike’s LGBT campaign, explains that the focus of the brand is to create a uniting force that shows support of athletes of the LGBTQ community.

The idea has grown so much that is has become a yearly celebration of equality and diversity and it’s promotion.  This is done with an annual release of a rainbow-themed collection, always out just in time for Pride week. The 2017 collection was no different, with specialties including rainbow swoosh Flyknit Racers and rainbow-soled Vapormax. The collection also included several other apparel and footwear products.

The collection was designed to support the LGBTQ community and provide them with unique products.  The campaign that began in 2012 was led by people highly passionate about the cause who wished to better connect with the LGBTQ community. Since then, the project has seen nothing but absolute success.  Other than the rainbow swoosh Flyknit Racer and Air VaporMax, the Air Zoom Pegasus 34 as well as the Classic Cortez silhouette are one-of-a-kind must haves from the collection.

A wide range of shirts, tank tops and even socks are part of the special collection, all of which have a vibrant and bright rainbow on them, as well as other noticeable Pride symbols, such as a triangle and the presence of the color pink.

What’s special about this year? It’s the first eight-color, seen on the HD rainbow Swoosh design, seen on the Nike Flyknit race.  The VaporMax Flyknit has the first rainbow VaporMax Air unit. It is also the very first time that the BeTrue products will be available for purchase in cities throughout the world.  The rainbow themed collection has raised approximately $2.5 million in America for the support of the LGBTQ community.

Wearing your rainbow while working out either on a run or inside the gym has become a way to feel apart of something bigger. The rainbow has made the LGBTQ community allies and will always be related to the BeTrue campaign in some way or another.
