Over decades, scientists and engineers have come together to create technology that us humans never thought was possible. As time passes these inventions have continuously impressed us all. From electronic devices to rocket ships, technology is completely endless.
An invention that proved us all wrong was Sophia. Say hello to the robot that looks almost human. “Sophia, is a social robot created by former Disney Imagineer, David Hanson. Modeled in part after Audrey Hepburn and Hanson’s wife,”according to National Geographic. Not only does this robot look human, it was built in part to mimic social behaviors that us humans use on a daily basis. As Sophia inspires feelings of love and compassion to its acquaintances and inventors, we can’t help but want to learn more.
Featured on multiple talk shows and magazines, many don’t believe Sophia’s capabilities to be accurate. In order to find out, photographer Di Sturco took an inside look at the Hong Kong based Hanson Robotics where Sophia is based out of. Once the photographer arrived, Sophia was unaware of how to react to photos. After a couple of days the robot was able to pose while being photographed.
Sturco even mentioned in National Geographic how “It was actually really strange- at one point, I realized I was even speaking with her, he adds. I had to step back and realize that she was a robot, not a human being.” This observation alone, shows how technology has proved to be limitless and inevitable.
In reality, who ever thought that robots would be able to resemble humans? We aren’t too sure but now that Sophia is present in today’s society, it makes us question what’s next. As technology continues to change and grow, the world slowly has become more efficient and knowledgeable of the unknown.
