Let’s start from the beginning. What is a capsule wardrobe? A capsule wardrobe, or simply a capsule, is usually defined as a set of clothing that includes tops, bottoms and shoes which work well with each other and create several different outfits when combined together in different ways. It’s not just about having less clothes than before—it’s also about having clothes that go well together, and about buying quality over quantity.
A capsule wardrobe is also about buying things that go well together and knowing how to put them together in different ways. And of course, you’ll be getting rid of clothes that don’t fit anymore, aren’t appropriate for the weather where you live, are out of style, or just no longer suit you.

If this makes sense to you and you want to start your very own capsule wardrobe, this is how you can do it. The first step is to actually go through your entire wardrobe and take note of all the pieces that you currently own. Don’t forget to include accessories like belts, shoes, scarves, and hats. Try to do this once every few months so that you’re not completely overwhelmed with too many clothes at once. A simple way of doing this is by laying all the pieces on your bed or on the floor, then just writing down everything that comes to mind. You can also take photos of each piece and categorize them using your phone or tablet.
Lastly, before taking everything out, do some thinking first: What colors do you not like? What colors make you look sick? Are there any items that are damaged or don’t fit anymore? Are there any pieces that just don’t go together with the rest of what you already own right now, or do they go well with some but not all of your clothes? Do you have clothes that are appropriate for your lifestyle, or do you want to make changes in order to achieve better results with the things you already have?
