Each year the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club’s Inner Circle organizes the annual Groundhog Day Event at the beginning of February. The event is hosted in Pennsylvania where Groundhog Phil resides with his caretakers from the club.

At the event, Groundhog Phil is brought in front of a crowd of people and blasted on all media outlets, in order for the world to see if this winter season will end up being longer. The modern-day legend says that if Phil the groundhog sees his shadow, there will be a few more weeks of winter. If Phil does not see his shadow, spring will be arriving early.

Although Phil does not usually predict the proper weather forecast, this tradition has stayed intact. This year, Phil could not find his shadow, meaning spring will be approaching soon. Throughout the many years, Phil has been the main determinate for the tradition he has been able to see his shadow most of the time.

Phil is not the only groundhog in the field but according to the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club, Phil is the most reliable and only source they rely on.
