First, on our list of different types of drums, we have the hand drum. Much like its name suggests this drum is played by hand. This may come as a surprise but the hand drum is the oldest drum in existence. It may even be the earliest instrument invented. Although hand drums can date back hundreds of years, they also come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and noises. You should also know that the hand drum is made of a number of different materials which allow it to produce sounds. Speaking of different materials, this leads us to our next drum.
We are speaking about none other than the animal skin drum. Much like the hand drum, animal skin drums were one of the first drums created. These drums have a long history in the African cultures as the animal skins were a material that was easily available for musicians. Now moving to a drum that is a bit more modern, we need to discuss the snare drum. The snare drum is really popular as a modern instrument. It can be made in different shapes and sizes. There are usually ropes or wires hanging on the side of the drum.
