Diet Soda’s Health Risks

Since the beginning of time, soda water or diet soda has been one of the most popular beverages in the United States. In fact, these diet soda companies have completely stolen the hearts of Americans until this day. Although times have changed, and the long term health effects of many of the world’s favorite treats are being released.

A recent Business Insider article just highlighted the negatives of drinking diet coke. As stated on Insider, “some studies have linked diet soda to serious diseases including an increased risk of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and ischemic stroke.” These are just a few of the many other side effects that come along with being a heavy diet coke drinker.

One of the many main misconceptions of diet soda is that since it is diet, it is made up of less sugar. As much as we would love to believe that to be true, it is unfortunately false. Diet soda actually has tons of ingredients that are made up of acids, one of the many being citric acid. These acids can damage the enamel of one’s teeth. On top of it all, the amount of sugar in the drinks can prevent weight loss and promote diabetes. All valid reasons to cut diet soda out of one’s lives.
