Criminal Sleeps On The Job

The highly comical case of a burglar who fell asleep on the job has been going around in Russian media.  After breaking into an office building in the Russian city of Orenburg, he fell asleep in a chair before fleeing the scene.

The failed crime took place on November 20th when a man in his late thirties entered a private office building by sneaking in through a window on the third floor by using a variety of tools, including a hammer, wire cutters, keys and screwdrivers.

After successfully managing to make his way into the office, he found 140,000 rubes ($2,100) in cash. However, rather than rushing out of the building to avoid getting caught like most other burglars would do,  he was tired, and decided that the best thing to do would be to take a nap.

He sat down in a leather chair and rested his eyes, only to be found sleeping by police a few hours later. Rather than confronting the man immediately, the guard that caught him contacted Russia’s National Guard to send out an intervention team.

Even after the time it took them to reach the burglar, he was still sound asleep in the chair, next to his stolen bag of cash.  The man was handcuffed and placed in custody by authorities.  A background check revealed that he had already been convicted and was already on the federal wanted list.

The moral of the story is that if you’re planning on carrying out a crime, make sure to get a good night’s sleep before.
